Bybit Insufficient Balance: Why Spot Orders Fail With Funds in Your Wallet

A Bybit insufficient-balance message does not necessarily mean your funds have disappeared. Wallet balance, available trading balance and collateral value answer different questions: existing orders or account risk can limit what you can use for a new Spot order. Check the selected account, asset and order ticket before depositing more or enabling borrowing.

Reviewed: September 18, 2026. This guide addresses Spot order placement in the Unified Trading Account (UTA), not missing blockchain deposits or withdrawal verification.

    Which balance should you check?

DisplayWhat it tells youWhat it does not prove
Wallet balanceThe balance of the asset held in the account. That all of it is free for a new order.
Total equityAn account valuation that can include derivatives profit or loss and option value. That you own that amount of the coin required by the trading pair.
Available balanceThe capacity shown in the selected trading ticket. That the same amount can be withdrawn or used in every product.
Margin balanceCollateral value under Cross or Portfolio Margin, with applicable valuation adjustments.Actual cash equal to the displayed value.

The official UTA asset-page guide distinguishes these displays. Read the balance in the trading ticket for the exact product and coin, rather than treating the portfolio headline as spending money. For the broader account structure, see our Bybit UTA and margin-mode guide.

    A focused troubleshooting sequence

Confirm the account, pair and direction

Check whether the funds are in Funding or in the UTA used for trading. Then confirm the selected pair: a BTC/USDT buy and a BTC/USDC buy require different quote assets. For a sell, inspect the available base asset. A display converted into your preferred currency is not evidence that you hold that currency.

Record the exact rejection message before changing anything. A balance problem, a quantity limit and an unfilled limit order are different diagnoses. Repeatedly submitting the same order can obscure which instructions remain active.

    Inspect existing orders across markets

Bybit provides an All Markets view for open orders; you can restrict the instrument filter to Spot. An order in another pair may explain why funds appear committed. Inspect the remaining quantity and status of each relevant order, not just the chart currently open.

Do not use Cancel All as a diagnostic shortcut. The official Spot guide warns that, with All Markets selected, it cancels orders across pairs. Review each order’s purpose first, especially an intended protective exit. Cancellation can release an unused reservation but cannot undo a completed fill.

Separate cash reservation from account-level margin

Bybit’s Asset In Use documentation treats the margin modes differently. Isolated mode requires the settlement asset and reserves open-order costs per asset. In Cross or Portfolio Margin, account-level initial margin and collateral adjustments also matter; Spot In Use can include a haircut reserved when an order exchanges higher-rated collateral for lower-rated collateral.

Do not assume that subtracting the displayed In Use figure from a wallet balance always reproduces the Spot ticket. Those values may use different units or calculation scopes. Inspect the selected margin mode and account risk indicators alongside the order details.

Worked example: a visible balance is not an unused balance

This is a simplified BYDITT illustration, not a live account calculation. Assume a cash-only Spot setup with 500 USDT, an unfilled buy reserving 320 USDT, no other positions or liabilities, and fees ignored.

    ItemIllustrative amount
    Wallet balanceHeld: 500 USDT
Reserved for the existing buyReserved: 320 USDT
    Remainder before other adjustmentsRemaining: 500 − 320 = 180 USDT
    Another proposed buyRequested: 250 USDT
    Difference compared with the remainderShortfall: 250 − 180 = 70 USDT

The new buy exceeds the uncommitted remainder even though the wallet headline exceeds the new order. If the original order partially fills, both the asset holdings and its remaining reservation change. Use the refreshed order ticket and fill history; do not reuse the initial arithmetic as an account guarantee.

Do not turn a balance error into an unintended loan

Enabling Margin changes the decision. The official Spot Margin FAQ says available balance can include borrowing capacity, and an order exceeding available wallet funds can trigger automatic borrowing. An unfilled limit order may already create borrowing and interest because its required assets are reserved.

The same FAQ says canceling that unfilled order returns its borrowed amount, but already accrued interest remains payable. Verify borrowing history and liabilities after cancellation. A cleared order list is not a reliable substitute for checking debt. Our Spot Margin borrowing and repayment guide explains the separate obligations.

Increasing leverage, enabling more collateral or transferring extra assets can change your financial exposure. These are not neutral troubleshooting steps. If you intended an unleveraged purchase, stop and understand the borrowing amount shown before confirming anything.

When balance is not the actual blocker

The official Spot Trading Rules impose pair-specific price, quantity and order-value limits. A market order can be canceled or only partially executed at the permitted price boundary. A sufficiently funded account can therefore still receive a rejection or incomplete fill.

Compare the exact error with the current rules for the selected pair. Do not copy another coin’s minimum order size. When using the full-balance market-order control, Bybit also documents a buffer for price changes, so the displayed maximum can differ slightly from a simple balance calculation.

What to collect before contacting support

    • The trading pair, buy or sell direction, order type and rejection time.
    • The relevant order ID, exact error, margin mode and selected account.
    • A redacted view of the ticket’s available balance and any related open order or borrowing record.

Send account evidence only through verified official support channels. Never publish passwords, API secrets, recovery phrases or authentication codes. This checklist is BYDITT’s suggested diagnostic workflow, not an official promise that a rejected order can be restored.

    Frequently asked questions

Should I deposit again when Bybit says insufficient balance?

Not automatically. First establish which asset and account the order needs and whether existing instructions reserve it. More funding does not resolve a wrong pair, an order-limit error or uncertainty about borrowing.

Does In Use mean my assets were lost?

No. The official term describes reserved margin, with a calculation that depends on margin mode and product. It is not itself a theft or loss notification. Investigate unexplained changes using account records and official support.

Does this apply to Korean and global users?

The distinction between displayed value and usable funds is useful across languages, but access is account- and jurisdiction-specific. Check the entity serving you, identity-verification status, local requirements and official restricted-jurisdiction rules. A Korean translation or accessible signup page does not establish regulatory authorization or product eligibility; do not bypass restrictions.

    Optional registration and disclosure

If you independently decide to register, review the Bybit signup screen with BYBITDC. Confirm the displayed code, applicable fees, campaign conditions and regional eligibility yourself. A referral code does not fix an order error or establish a particular discount or reward.

Affiliate disclosure: BYDITT is an independent educational and affiliate website, not Bybit.com. BYDITT may receive compensation from eligible registrations or trading through its partner link, creating an economic interest. This does not change the need to verify your own account terms.

Risk notice: This is operational education, not investment advice. Crypto trading involves market loss, liquidity, custody and regulatory risks. Margin and derivatives can incur interest and liquidation losses; shared collateral may expose other holdings. An accepted order is not a guarantee of execution, safety or profit.
