Bybit Small Balance: Why You Cannot Sell Dust and When Conversion Works

Why can a small Bybit balance remain after a Spot sale? A remaining asset may be too small for that trading pair’s minimum order value, even when the wallet shows a positive balance. Bybit’s separate Convert Small Balance tool may offer a way to exchange an eligible residual amount, but it has different limits, a fee and an account-specific eligibility check.

This guide distinguishes a Spot order rejection from small-balance conversion so you can check the actual rule before adding funds or accepting a quote. It is an independent ByDITT explanation, not a Bybit policy announcement. Official sources checked: 23 September 2026; Bybit can change product rules and local availability.

Two minimums, two different questions

Question Where to check What it means
Can I sell this amount on Spot? The current trading pair’s order limits and the order ticket The proposed order must meet that pair’s minimum order value and other applicable rules.
Can I use Convert Small Balance? Assets → Funding Account or Unified Trading Account (UTA) → Convert Small Balance Only assets shown as eligible in that tool can be selected, subject to its own size, frequency and coin restrictions.
Can I use ordinary Bybit Convert instead? The live Convert quote and coin-specific transaction limits This is a different product, with its own supported coins, quote and minimums.

Bybit’s Spot Trading Rules say single orders have minimum and maximum limits and that order value must meet the pair’s minimum. Its BTC/USDT example shows a 1 USDT minimum order value, but that example is not a universal minimum: check the live rule for your exact pair. If the value of your residual quantity is below the applicable minimum, repeating the same order at the same size will not solve the rejection. A balance can also appear unavailable because it is in the wrong account or tied to an open order; see our Bybit insufficient-balance troubleshooting guide before assuming the order minimum is the only cause.

When does Bybit’s small-balance conversion apply?

Bybit’s How to Convert Small Account Balance says assets worth less than 0.001 BTC or its equivalent can be converted into MNT, USDT or USDC from a Funding Account or UTA. The page says this feature is available once every 1 hour, charges a 2% conversion fee, and limits each transaction to no more than 200 USDT equivalent and no less than 0.00000001 MNT equivalent. Delisted coins are excluded. The quoted price refreshes every 30 seconds, and a price move of 0.5% or more during conversion can prevent completion.

These are conversion rules, not Spot order rules. A token being too small to sell on Spot does not prove that it is selectable for conversion. Conversely, the “less than 0.001 BTC equivalent” threshold does not tell you the minimum Spot sale amount. The account screen is the final check for your coin, balance, destination and region.

A practical decision path

  1. Identify the actual asset and account. Check whether the residual quantity is in Funding or UTA, and whether any amount is locked in an active order. If you are navigating UTA balances, our UTA account guide explains the account context.
  2. Check the pair-specific Spot minimum. Compare the estimated order value on the sell ticket with Bybit’s current Spot trading rules. Do not substitute a sitewide “minimum” for the selected pair.
  3. Open Convert Small Balance. From Assets, choose Funding Account or UTA, then Convert Small Balance. Check whether the asset actually appears and which of MNT, USDT or USDC is offered to your account.
  4. Review the net quote. Compare the displayed amount you would receive with the 2% feature fee and the current Spot alternative. Confirm only if the quote and destination make sense for you; otherwise leave the balance untouched and revisit when your circumstances change.
  5. Check the record. Bybit says the feature’s Exchange History shows the conversion record. Keep the quote and transaction details for your own reconciliation.

Example: why a small amount is not automatically free to convert

Suppose a residual coin has an estimated sell value of 0.80 USDT on a pair whose live minimum order value is 1 USDT. The Spot sale would be below that example minimum. If and only if the coin and account also qualify for Convert Small Balance, a 2% fee on a hypothetical 0.80 USDT value is 0.016 USDT before quote changes; the actual output is whatever the confirmation screen displays. Do not infer eligibility from this arithmetic: the 0.001 BTC-equivalent test, coin listing, size floor and account availability still need checking.

What about the ordinary Convert page?

Bybit’s How to Convert Your Assets describes ordinary Convert as a separate quote-based product with coin-specific transaction limits. It describes zero traditional trading fees, but the quoted rate can differ from the Spot market price, and additional fees may apply in some countries or regions. Do not confuse that wording with the dedicated small-balance feature’s stated 2% fee. If your asset does not appear in Convert Small Balance, test whether ordinary Convert offers a valid quote and minimum for your account; do not assume it will accept every residual amount.

FAQ

Does a failed Spot sale mean Bybit has taken my coins?

No. An order rejection is not evidence of a lost asset. First compare the asset balance, available balance, open orders, account location and the pair’s live order rule. If records genuinely disagree, contact Bybit support with the asset, account, pair and order details.

Can I bypass the minimum by switching to a market order?

Do not assume so. Bybit’s Spot rules apply order limits, and the market order also has execution and price-limit conditions. Check the order ticket for the selected pair and order type.

Should I buy more just to sell the remainder?

Not automatically. Buying more creates a new trade, spread exposure and fees, and market prices can move. Compare those costs and risks with any available conversion quote; doing nothing may be preferable for a very small amount.

Is the conversion fee the same as my referral trading-fee discount?

No automatic connection is stated in the cited Bybit material. Treat the feature’s 2% conversion fee and any account-specific Spot trading fee or promotion as separate items. Check the amount displayed before confirming.
